Our Outreach Programs

A Church with a Passion for Outreach

Whether it is reaching out to those in our own community or abroad, St. Augustine’s has a passion for helping others. While we do various service and outreach events throughout the year, there are certain local ministries that we support on a regular basis: Laundry Love, Story Box, Christ Church Community Meal.

Laundry Love

Laundry Love is an outreach ministry of St. Augustine’s that started on September 29th, 2021. The ministry offers free laundry to homeless people at Peanuts Laundry on Walton Way.

"Our ministry is the most recent of a chain of such ministries across the United States. The purpose of this organization is to help restore an individual’s self-worth and dignity who may be marginalized because of homelessness or poverty. St. Augustine accomplished this mission one afternoon through the simple act of providing the financial resources for some to wash their clothes and listening to their stories. For a beginning, the first monthly event at Peanut’s Laundry – Walton Way was a huge success with ten served and twenty loads of laundry washed. Books were also available from our church’s Storybook Ministry, and several were taken by and for children at home." - The Rev. Deacon John Warner

St. Augustine is dedicated to providing this service on the last Wednesday of each month. To find out how you can participate and support Laundry Love, contact

StoryBox Ministry

The mission of StoryBox is to help local children perform better in school by getting good-quality books into the hands and homes of children in low income areas of Augusta. We distribute books to local kids through neighborhood community centers, theRichmond County Health Departments, local soup kitchens, community outreach events and Richmond County schools.

Chances are, you either have children’s books you aren’t using or you know someone who does. Please consider donating them to StoryBox. We are always accepting donations of new and gently used children’s books. Books can be dropped off at St. Augustine of CanterburyEpiscopal Church during regular office hours or arrangements can be made for pick up for larger donations. In addition, if you or your organization would be interested in hosting a book drive, we will be happy to supply you with the materials to get started! For information please contact Amanda Peacock at 706-830-4719.

Community Meal

On the second Saturday of each month our volunteers prepare and serve meals to guests from the kitchen at the Byllesby Center and others who choose to be served. The meals are intended to be hot meals that are served inside with guests seated at the table in a safe and comfortable space. After meals are consumed at the table, to go meals are also provided. Personnel care items and clothing is also distributed at this time.
